Shelley Briggs Callahan has spent the last 20 years traveling extensively across the U.S. and to over 70 countries worldwide, reporting on the burden of poverty and supporting communities in need through her work with multiple international NGOs.

She started her career in the nonprofit world in 2006, when she
co-founded Books on Wheels, a grassroots organization that provided free books and free bicycle repair to children living in low-income neighborhoods across the United States. In 2008, after graduating with a Master of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University, Callahan followed her interests on a global scale, serving as the Director of Development for the U.S.-based NGO Children Incorporated, which helped thousands of children in over 300 communities across 23 countries receive an education. During her time with Children Incorporated, Shelley served as the lead social correspondent, photographer, videographer and content developer for the organization. She also had the privilege of creating the Stories of Hope blog series and developing and designing print and online communications to share with donors.

Shelley is currently the program advisor for the Friends of the Children of Haiti water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) program that provides thousands of water filters and WASH education resources to communities in Haiti. She is also a travel enthusiast and writer who loves sharing stories about her many adventures around the globe on her blog, Travels With My Mortgage.

Shelley is the author of The House of Life (2016) and The Best Friends Day Yearbook (2021).
