About Shelley
Shelley Briggs Callahan has spent the last 20 years traveling extensively across the US and to over 70 countries worldwide, reporting on the burden of poverty and supporting communities in need through her work with multiple international NGOs. She started her career in the nonprofit world in 2006, when she co-founded Books on Wheels, a grassroots organization that provided free books and free bicycle repair to children living in low-income neighborhoods across the United States. In 2008, after graduating with a Master’s of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University, Callahan followed her interests to a global scale, serving as the Director of Development for a US based organization that helped thousands of children in over 300 communities in 23 countries receive an education. Shelley is currently the program advisor for the Friends of the Children of Haiti water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) program that provides thousands of water filters and WASH education resources to communities in Haiti.
Shelley is the author of The House of Life (2016) and The Best Friends Day Yearbook (2021).
